Amazon is taking ecommerce and the consumer goods market in general by storm. This is no secret to those in the industry, however current projections suggest that Amazon’s dominance among publicly traded ecommerce companies is strong and growing.

Last year, Amazon held an impressive 38% market share, equal to $149 billion in sales. Research firm eMarketer has suggested, however, that Amazon will be responsible for an unprecedented 43.5% of all ecommerce sales in 2017, or approximately $196.8 billion.

Although ecommerce sales still only make up around 10-11% of total retail sales, they are increasing dramatically and consistently. Amazon is now responsible for nearly 4% of total retail sales online and in-store in the US.
